Tips & Tricks: Networking

One thing you may not know an agent does is connect across the nation, across the world with other agents. And the reason we do this is so we have a resource for our buyers who are moving out of state.

So the great thing is, if I've got a buyer who's selling their home in Lexington – they're moving to Florida or Utah – I know somebody who I can trust, that if I refer my client to them, they're going to take care of them.

So you know, we meet these people. I was at a real estate conference about a week ago. I met a lot of great agents. And the good thing about meeting agents at a conference like that from other places is that if they're at a conference, they're there to learn, they're there to excel and grow. And typically those are the people that are really successful in their respective markets.

So my goal is to connect with great agents and then really follow up with them so they know that I'm here to be a referral partner if they have somebody moving to my area and I'm going to keep them in mind if I've got somebody moving to their area.

So this is a little example of what I do. Typically when I meet a great agent and want to connect with them, I want to record a short video for them:

“Hey Chris. Patrick O'Connor from Coldwell Banker in the Midlands of South Carolina. Got your card here. I enjoyed meeting you at the Tom Ferry summit. I don't even know where Layton Utah is, but I want to figure it out, but I did actually have a client move from Utah about three or four years ago. Hopefully I'll have somebody moving that way and I can send you some business. If you've got anybody coming here to the Columbia, South Carolina Midlands area, I'd be happy to be a resource for you. Wishing you great luck finishing up 2019 strong. Hopefully I'll see you at another event soon. Take care.”

So then I like to do this to where, so they actually watch it.

So they see their card and hopefully they'll play [the video]. But I think it's just a great way to connect with agents, be memorable, and be a resource.
